Influenza (Flu) is a viral illness which is spread by coughs and sneezes. It is most common during the winter months.
Flu is not the same as a cold. It can be more severe and last longer. Symptoms include:
- tiredness and weakness
- aches and pains
Most people will get over flu in about a week but for young children, the elderly and people with certain medical conditions, e.g. asthma and diabetes flu can be very serious.
Are you eligible for a free flu injection?
If you fall into one of the following categories:
- You are over 65
- You are pregnant
- Suffer from a medical condition such as asthma, diabetes, heart disease
- Have a lowered immunity, e.g. cancer, on steroids, had your spleen removed
Then you may be eligible for a free NHS flu vaccination. Please contact your GP for further information.
If you do not qualify for a free NHS flu vaccination you can still get one from your local, specially trained Lindsay & Gilmour Pharmacist.
