The team at Lindsay & Gilmour are delighted to be shortlisted in three categories at this year’s Chemist and Druggist Awards. Judges for the much-coveted UK-wide industry awards have selected Lindsay & Gilmour as finalists in Manager of The Year, Pharmacy Design of the Year and Trainee of the Year categories.

Managing Director of Lindsay & Gilmour Philip Galt said: “To be shortlisted in not one but three categories at the highly competitive Chemist and Druggist Awards is an outstanding result for everyone at Lindsay & Gilmour. I am delighted that the judging panel have recognised the exceptional commitment to community pharmacy patient care and customer service shown by everyone involved in these shortlisted nominations.”

Lesley-Anne Graham has been shortlisted as Manager of The Year for her tireless work to introduce and develop a team of Dispensers, Technicians, and ACTs to ensure the smooth introduction, running and expansion of the Monitored Dosette System (MDS) Robot (‘Omnicell VBM ‘) across Lindsay & Gilmour’s group of pharmacies.

Thanks to Lesley-Anne’s unwavering commitment, Lindsay & Gilmour became one of the first pharmacy groups in Scotland to introduce this new system, making it easier for patients and their carers to manage complex medication regimes. Lesley-Anne’s training and support for colleagues in her immediate team and beyond has meant that an increasing number of our workforce have the ability to use the Dosette Robot. At every stage, Lesley-Anne was driven with the primary aim of providing the best possible standard of patient care in the community.

The extensive re-design of our pharmacy in West Calder has been recognised by its inclusion as a Finalist in the Pharmacy Design of the Year category. Under the redevelopment, Lindsay & Gilmour have created an extensive Prescription Dispensing Hub with the long-term potential to serve the medication needs of all 32 pharmacies across our estate in due course.

To date, the team at West Calder currently support the prescription dispensing needs of 10 of our pharmacies across Scotland. As well as quadrupling the size of the pharmacy space in total, the re-design introduced several innovative and industry leading technologies which have and will continue to transform our prescription delivery to patients.

And finally, the commitment to excellence demonstrated by Gemma Bryce at our Forth branch in Lanarkshire impressed the judging panel who have shortlisted her in the Trainee Pharmacist of the Year category.

During the year that Gemma Bryce spent at Lindsay & Gilmour's Forth branch in Lanarkshire, she demonstrated what was described by her manager, Noreen Larsen, as a "genuinely exceptional commitment to learning and achieving the best possible patient outcomes above all else." From her first week at our branch, Gemma hit the ground running and was incredibly hard-working, organised and motivated in all aspects of her training and development. Noreen Larson said: "Gemma was an absolute pleasure to have on our team. She would always be proactive in her learning but wasn't afraid to ask a question if needed. She knew her boundaries but would come to me with a question,

having already researched the answer as best she could." But, above all other areas of excellence, it was Gemma's unwavering devotion to serving the needs of her patients in the small community that made her stand out as the obvious candidate to win this award.

We congratulate all of our shortlisted Chemist and Druggist Awards nominees on this recognition and wish them best of luck for the big night itself on Friday 18th November!

Lindsay & Gilmour are delighted to announce their accreditation as a Living Wage employer. This important step reflects our ongoing commitment to being the community pharmacy employer of choice in Scotland.

It also reinforces one of our five core values as a business, to CARE for every customer and colleague in our team. We prioritise putting our people first, by caring for our colleagues, customers and communities.

The Living Wage commitment will see every Lindsay & Gilmour employee receive a minimum hourly wage of £9.90 per hour - significantly higher than the government minimum for over 23s, which currently stands at £9.50 per hour (from 1 April 2022).

In Scotland, more than 14% of all jobs pay less than the real Living Wage - around 330,000 jobs. Despite this, Lindsay & Gilmour has committed to pay the real Living Wage and deliver a fair day’s pay for a hard day’s work.

Lindsay & Gilmour MD and Superintendent Pharmacist Philip Galt said: At Lindsay & Gilmour, we have always worked hard to attract the very best pharmacy team professionals to work across our company. We are a family business at heart and understand the importance of nurturing our colleagues and making them feel valued for the work they do to serve the health needs of our communities. Therefore, becoming an accredited Living Wage employer is a crucial way to show our commitment to rewarding all of our employees fairly for the contribution they make.”

The real Living Wage is the only UK wage rate calculated according to the costs of living. Employers choose to pay The real Living Wage on a voluntary basis, recognising the value of their workers and ensuring that a hard day’s work receives a fair day’s pay.

Since 2011, the Living Wage movement has delivered a pay rise to over 55,000 people in Scotland and put over £310 million extra into the pockets of low paid Scottish workers.

Peter Kelly, Director of The Poverty Alliance said: “We all need an income that is enough to cover our needs and protect us from poverty, and it’s only right that employers pay a wage that reflects the cost of living. Too many workers in Scotland are paid less than the real Living Wage and, at a time of rising costs, are struggling to stay afloat. The real Living Wage can offer protection from those rising costs.”

“Congratulations to Lindsay & Gilmour on their Living Wage commitment, and I hope more organisations follow their lead by becoming Living Wage accredited.”

Gail Irvine, Living Wage Scotland Manager said: “We’re delighted that Lindsay & Gilmour has become an accredited Living Wage employer. They join a growing movement of over 2700 employers in Scotland who together want to ensure workers have what they need to thrive.

Our Living Wage employer network includes lots of smaller employers as well as larger and iconic brands like SSE, abrdn, Barrs, Mackie’s of Scotland, & D.C. Thomson. We hope to see many more employers following their example.”

Community Pharmacy Team of the Year

No, you are not seeing double, we won twice at this year’s hotly contested Scottish Pharmacist Awards – which recognise the very best in pharmacy practice throughout Scotland.

After tremendous excitement at being picked as finalists and an anxious build-up to the big night itself, Lindsay & Gilmour were thrilled to win in two popular categories. Representatives of the whole L & G family at the glitzy award ceremony in Edinburgh were hugely proud to collect the awards on behalf of everyone who contributed to our success.

We fought off fierce competition to win both Community Pharmacy Team of the Year (for our Blackhall, Edinburgh branch) and Innovation & Enterprise Within Pharmacy Practice.

This is a remarkable achievement, to be selected by the judging panel as winners, and for this recognition to come following one of the most testing times for community pharmacy in our company’s history.

Lindsay & Gilmour’s Managing Director and Superintendent Pharmacist Philip Galt said: “We were absolutely delighted to win both awards which mean so much to us as one of Scotland’s largest independent community pharmacy groups. The trials of the last two years have brought out the very best in community pharmacy as our teams rise to meet the challenges of a global pandemic while supporting our patient’s health in the most vital of settings – their local community.

To win even one of these hugely prestigious awards – which attract the toughest competitors in the country – is a massive honour.  And, to win two is a fantastic achievement for everyone.”

Employee Benefits Awards Success

The team at Lindsay & Gilmour were also delighted to fight off fierce UK-wide competition to win an award recognising the exceptional employee benefits we provide for our employees – the people who are at the heart of everything we do.

Facing competition from some major national and international businesses, including BNP Paribas and Lloyd’s Register, we were thrilled to win the award for Best Benefits Communications at The Employee Benefits Awards 2021. The honour recognises our effective and innovative approach to benefits communications, using recognition and reward to double our employee engagement.

We selected Vivup High5 as our solution as it provided the most synergistic approach with our other benefits.  It facilitated manager to employee recognition and reward plus peer-to-peer recognition and gave our ‘thank you’ culture a huge boost at a time when it was needed. Utilising the app to reward our team was a brand-new initiative for us and it worked perfectly. It enabled us to give back to our incredibly hard-working staff during an unprecedented time and saw fantastic uptake.

As a result of introducing this solution:

Edinburgh Chamber Of Commerce Awards Success

The team were also delighted to hear the news in February that Lindsay & Gilmour had been Highly Commended in the Innovation in Business Category of the Edinburgh Chamber of Commerce Business Awards 2022.  Marking our first ever entry to these prestigious awards, the recognition was a great endorsement of the industry leading work we have carried out to ensure that Lindsay & Gilmour is on the cutting edge of innovation in community pharmacy.

The judging panel were particularly impressed by key projects such as our 24-Hour Medicine Dispensing ‘Robot’, our Electronic Medicine Recording System at The Cross, Inverkeithing and our Patient Access System.

All the innovative developments demonstrated by Lindsay & Gilmour have, in varying ways, contributed to increasing accessibility and trust between potential customers and their community pharmacist.   By expanding the range of services available in our pharmacies and finding new and innovative ways to tell people about them, this significantly increases the chances of better health outcomes for the communities we serve.

Association of Pharmacy Technicians UK Awards Success

Lindsay & Gilmour’s Awards success continued into April with the news that our Service Development Manager Danielle Brockie was awarded as the joint winner of the APTUK Excellence in Pharmacy Education and Development Award.  This very worthy accolade recognises  Danielle’s outstanding commitment to supporting and developing the education and training of pharmacy teams within Lindsay and Gilmour.  The personal contribution Danielle has made to upskilling and developing the potential of our Pharmacy Technicians has made a tangible and significant contribution to the service we can offer our patients within their communities.  Among the key projects Danielle has overseen recently are:

Recognition of Excellence Awards

And finally (for now!), Lindsay & Gilmour’s ‘Nuchem’ pharmacy in the heart of Edinburgh City Centre, has been selected as a Finalist in this year’s Recognition of Excellence Awards.  The pharmacy team, led by Manager Lisa-Ann Kearney has been selected to go head-to-head with other UK-wide community pharmacies in the fiercely contested Team of the Year category.
