Lindsay & Gilmour is proud to be participating in the first ever UK-wide inhaler recycling and recovery scheme – Complete the Cycle – for all inhalers typically used to treat asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD).

Run by British-based pharmaceutical company GlaxoSmithKline (GSK) in partnership with pharmacies across the UK, the scheme enables people with respiratory conditions to play their part in dramatically reducing the impact on the environment caused by the landfill disposal of inhalers. If every inhaler-user in the UK returned all their inhalers for one year, this would save 512,330 tonnes of CO2eq – this saving would allow a VW Golf car to be driven around the world 88,606 times.

Complete the Cycle also provides opportunity for people with respiratory conditions to interact with our pharmacists, to ensure they are getting the best out of their medicines. A GSK pilot scheme showed that 29% of inhalers returned were not empty, allowing pharmacists to support patients in improving their inhaler technique and better managing their condition.

Complete the Cycle is currently available in 10 of our branches. Our pharmacies will have a box behind the counter where our staff can deposit used inhalers brought in by customers. Available at: Bannockburn, Bonnybridge Health Centre, Cumbernauld, Dalkeith, Elm Row (Edinburgh), Hawick, Cross Pharmacy (Inverkeithing), Milton Road (Edinburgh), Sauchie and West Calder Health Centre.
