Mr ‘X’ came into Lindsay and Gilmour Pharmacy in Hawick and enquired about our smoking cessation service.
During a consultation with one of our experienced pharmacy technicians within our private consultation room, Mr ‘X’ told us that he started smoking in his early twenties and currently smokes 40 cigarettes per day. After a thorough explanation of how our smoking cessation service works and what support we can provide to ensure his goals are realistic and achievable, the quit date was set and choice of products was made. It was also agreed that Mr ‘X’ would visit us every week to collect his nicotine patches, have his CO measurement taken and progress monitored. We also discussed how to manage temptation to smoke and handle any cravings he may experience. After completing 12 weeks of Nicotine Replacement Therapy our patient stopped using any patches. He recently visited our Hawick Pharmacy as he was passing by, and came to thank us again for the support we had provided. Our team were delighted to hear that, since his quit date, he has not had one cigarette and remains a healthier and happier non-smoker.
